Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between Solo, Studio, and Agency?

Solo ($149) covers 1 production deployment and 6 months of email support — ideal for building your own store or one client project. Studio ($299) covers 3 projects and up to 3 developers on your team, with 12 months of support. Agency ($599) is unlimited projects, unlimited team size, plus white-label rights, source code handoff to clients, priority support, and 24 months of coverage.

Is this truly self-hosted, or does it phone home to a managed backend?

Truly self-hosted — no managed API, no key that phones home. You run the whole stack (Next.js + Postgres) on your own infrastructure. Unlike some 'self-hosted' alternatives that quietly rely on a managed backend service, Open Sky Commerce has no hidden dependency. Everything runs on your server.

Can I build stores for clients or use it commercially?

Yes — all license tiers include commercial use rights. You can build and deploy stores for clients under any tier. The only limit is the number of active production projects (1 for Solo, 3 for Studio, unlimited for Agency). Client project delivery rights are included in Studio and Agency; Agency also adds white-label and source code handoff rights.

What counts as a 'project'?

A project is one production deployment — typically a single storefront on its own domain. Local development environments and private staging URLs do not count toward your project limit.

Why pay $149 when free MIT-licensed starters like Your Next Store exist?

Free starters give you a storefront skeleton. Open Sky Commerce gives you four payment processors pre-wired (Stripe, Authorize.net, Clover, Square), live POS inventory sync via webhooks, a full admin panel with CMS, transactional email, coupon engine, SwiftSearch, and multi-role auth — all connected and production-tested. You could build all of that yourself, but the hours cost far more than $149. You also get email support, not just a GitHub discussion thread.

Who owns hosting, security patches, and infrastructure?

You do, entirely. Open Sky Commerce is source code you deploy on your own server — nothing phones home, no managed backend, no license key calling out to our API. You apply Node.js, OS, and dependency updates on your own schedule. When we ship a security-relevant update we notify active-support customers with a summary and migration guide, but the decision to apply it is yours. Your database, your server, your customer data — we never see or store any of it.

Is there a monthly subscription fee?

No. Open Sky Commerce is self-hosted — you pay for your own hosting and third-party services (DigitalOcean, Stripe, SendGrid, etc.). Search is powered by SwiftSearch, our built-in engine, so there's no third-party search bill. No per-transaction fees or monthly platform charges from us.

What happens after my support period ends?

You can continue using the code independently — it doesn't stop working. The documentation stays available. If you want to extend support after it expires, contact us and we'll sort something out.

Is there a refund policy?

Yes — 14 days from purchase. If the software doesn't work for your use case and you haven't deployed it commercially, contact us within 14 days for a full refund.
